September 2025 surveillance of atopic eczema in under 12s: diagnosis and management

In September 2025, we reviewed this guideline in relation to the sections on treatment, and education and adherence to therapy.

Surveillance decision

We decided to amend recommendation 1.5.1.45 after new evidence that found no benefit for taking fewer showers or baths, or using exchange iron water softeners or silk clothing for children with atopic eczema. We also added a link to an NHS resource (Eczema Care Online) to recommendation 1.6.1.1 because new evidence found this to be effective in supporting eczema self-management.
