Research recommendations coming out of this guidance

  • Research is recommended on the percentage of unenhanced ultrasound scans that are inconclusive, particularly in people with cirrhosis. Such studies should explicitly define and describe why scans are 'inconclusive'.

  • Research is recommended on patient preferences, and their impact on quality of life, for contrast-enhanced ultrasound and other imaging modalities. Ideally such research should compare all appropriate imaging modalities in the same patient group.
