Draft scope consultation

Health Tech Programme consultation document

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) is producing guidance on ex-situ machine perfusion for deceased donor liver transplants. The draft scope has been developed by the NICE team with input from relevant stakeholders. The purpose of the scope is to provide a framework for the assessment. It defines the issues for consideration when developing guidance (for example, population, comparators, care pathway, and outcome measures) and sets the boundaries for the work to be done by the external assessment group, and any evidence relevant to the assessment.

You can now comment on the draft scope consultation document. NICE invites comments from registered stakeholders, healthcare professionals and the public.

The reason for this consultation is because a notable change has been made to the draft scope since it was last presented to stakeholders.

The updated draft scope states that the assessment will assess the use of machine perfusion devices for people listed on the liver transplant waiting list for deceased donors.

How to comment

You should read  the consultation document in full before making any comments. Commentary is welcome on all aspects of the scope, scope questions are provided as prompts and are not intended to be restrictive.

Equality issues

NICE is committed to promoting equality of opportunity, eliminating unlawful discrimination and fostering good relations between people with particular protected characteristics and others. Please let us know if you think that the recommendations may need changing to meet these aims. In particular, please tell us if the recommendations:

  • could have a different effect on people protected by the equality legislation than on the wider population, for example by making it more difficult in practice for a specific group to access the technology
  • could have any adverse effect on people with a particular disability or disabilities.

Please provide any relevant information or data you have about such effects and how they could be avoided or reduced.

Note that this document is not NICE's final scope on Ex-situ machine perfusion for deceased donor liver transplants

After consultation, the comments will be considered and the final scope will be prepared.
