Research recommendations coming out of this guidance

  • Drainage, irrigation and fibrinolytic therapy (DRIFT) for post-haemorrhagic hydrocephalus in preterm infants should only be used in the context of research. Research should aim to establish the risk of secondary haemorrhage and its consequences, and the need for shunt insertion. Outcomes should include death and disability in the long-term: these should be reported separately.
