About NICE medical technologies guidance
This guidance evaluates new, innovative medical devices and diagnostics.
It helps people in the NHS make efficient, cost-effective and consistent decisions about adopting new medical technologies (medtech).
Our aim is to boost the uptake of devices and technologies in the NHS.
We look at medical technologies that:
deliver treatment - like those implanted during surgical procedures
give greater independence to patients
detect or monitor medical conditions.
Manufacturers, distributors and agents can get a medical technology evaluated by NICE.
We regularly review our medtech guidance. If there is no new research or evidence available that would have a material effect on the guidance, it gets moved to the static list.
We developed an early value assessment (EVA) approach to assess those technologies that are most needed and in demand.
We developed a late-stage assessment (LSA) approach to evaluate those categories of technologies that are already in widespread use within the NHS.
These short briefings examine new, innovative technologies. They give a description of the technology, examples of use, its role in the treatment pathway, reviews of published evidence and likely costs.
