3.1
The National Wound Care Strategy Programme defines a leg ulcer as an ulcer between the knee and ankle that has not healed within 2 weeks. Most leg ulcers are caused by venous insufficiency, although they can also be caused by peripheral vascular disease, reduced mobility, cardiac failure, diabetes or sickle cell disease. Ulcers heal slower when they are infected.
